This is a mail we received last month and we planned to help to relief the responsibilities of the thero. So, we decide to make this our annual event and planned following events as a BetterPlace4All team.

1) Giving New bedsheets - Contributed By Haridhu Abeygoonaratne.
2) Clean and Paint the area of house where destitute priest stay.
3) Hire a person live in village for monthly wages of Rs.6500/= This financial burden is taken care of by our group members by contributing 500/= per each month. Named of contributors

Dear friends,

Two weeks ago I visited a 150 year old temple in a village named Wallawe in Polgahawela. The chief incumbant of this temple is Ven. Amilasiri who is doing a noble, unique service to the sasana in silence. He is accomadating 12 old debilitated destitute priests who have been abandoned as there is no one to care for them in their old age.Ven Amilasiri gets very little help from the village due to poverty, and he depends on the occasional donations he gets.

The very ill priests are housed in a separate building. The beds in this building are in a very dilapitated condition. The matresses are all very dirty and some dont even have bed sheets. Some priests cannot walk to the toilets and urinate on the bed it self .

In addition there are 23 samanera monks. All of whom are children who have been abandoned by their parents for various reasons. When they reach the correct age they are sent to pirivenas for their education'

Ven. Amilasiri has been attending to washing and cleaning the sick priests and their soiled clothes personally. He never allowed the young samaneras to get involved lest they get disgusted of the monastic life. He wakes up at 3am to cooks all by them the dane for the rest of the priests

After visiting and seeing the challenging work done by Ven. Amilasiri we as buddhists realised that we need to support him to carry on with his noble work.

On inquiring we learnt that he needs to cook 8 kgs of rice per day . On sundays he goes on pindapathe with 3 other samanera monks and collects the rations for the.

So let us get together to help Ven. Amilasiri to do this noble work. If you wish to visit his temple it is situated in a village called Wallawe which is 4 1/2 km from Polgahawela junction on kurunegala road. There are 2 approaches one is a road on the right side after the 18th km post soon after you pass the petrol filling station and a bridge. The other is after the 19th km post, the first turn to the right If you take the first turn always keep to the right, and if you take the 2nd turn always keep to the left. You drive about 2 1/2 km down to come to the name board Sri Bodhirukkarama temple on the right. Turn here and drive down the path which ends in the temple.

Some useful items to take if you visit would be, Rice Dhal milk powder tea sugar bedsheets, mackintoshes books for the samaner monks. etc.

Trip To Sadun Alla

We have organized a trip to visit Kitulgala area on 16/05/2009. This trip is organized by Ranga who is an active team player in our team. Main purpose was to plant few tress in a empty land area and have a fun with team members.

It was a great fun!!!!!!!!

Third Consecutive Elder's Home Event

We have successfully completed the 3rd annual elder’s home event on this 28th of March 2009. This is the one of most mind delighting event conducted by the BetterPlace4All team. The organizing committee has done the most valuable contribution by organizing this complex and time consuming event.

As the President of the society I would like to specially thank Gayan (Cheif Organizer), Tharanga, Ishara, Surawwera, Ishan, Chathura for their true effort. Also for all the other participants took place in this event and contributors who have supports in various ways.

Hope to meet all of you + some new faces in 2010. I wish all the BetterPlace4All members and the site visitors Happy New Year :).

Legalization of BetterPlace4All

Currently I'm trying to collaborate with out team members who are responsible for legalizing our team to make the legalization process quick. Our low officer Rukman Bandara is working on this for a while. All the things are ready for legalization and final move of translating constitution to English version is pending. After we complete this with the help of Kalpa Gunarathne we will be submit our registration to the relevant department to register our society as local NGO in Sri Lanka.

New Sponsoring List

Year after Year ..... So, all our BetterPlace4All members finished the undergraduate studies in University of Colombo School of Computing. Now we are employed as Software Engineers.

When we pass out new batch enter to the university. There are people who need help among them. From 240 batch we have filtered out 21 students who need help. Today we held Interviews for 7 student and selected five first year Undergraduates to give a top up.

At start we would only able to sponsor one but in second round we were able to make it six. All these are given by the our batch mates. So if any one likes to join with us send me a mail suranjith_e@yahoo.com

Hope we team will be able to add a small change to the society :)

New year function at Elders' home

Can you remember last year? At Gampaha elders' home we all did a great job. Now its time for our second iteration :D. At Bandaragama. We all are ready. So friends, lets do a grate job this time also. Tomorrow at 8 am at Bandaragama Elders' home..Lets make this new year a great one for our elders..

Another Social Work

Second year students of University of Colombo School of Computing are organizing a social activity to help a school in Monaragala. As betterplace4 all team we also could be to support them by contributing 515 exercise books and 60 pencils on 28th of March.

After few silent months now we are back..... Suddenly we have decide to participate in couple of social responsibilities. So we're going to donate few stationary items for a school which need some help and Plant 15 tress around our university premises.....

What else......

Scholarship program growing gradually and we hope to expand it by selecting another student.... So we have long away to go :)

Hi team,
I was on my way to University in train. I was thinking about the Internet and suddenly I got an idea of using Internet to expand our team. I thought of using the comments section to inform all the bloggers to join their hands to make this world betterplace. Now i have to inform this to our team to start a huge campaign on inform to all the bloggers. I thought to request from bloggers to plant at least one tree from their hands to add more trees for environment. Another Success Event

HI to all,

I'm glade to inform that we have finish our initial step of tree planting @ railway yard on 22nd of November 2007. We have planted nearly 250 trees. Now we have the challenge of maintaining them. Hope people will understand the value of Nature.

Special thank goes to my team members , all the UCSC staff members , Railway people and forest people.

Friends,
I'm glade to say that it going to happen. We had put great effort on organizing this event. It's like a dream come true. We'll be planting 250 trees around the yard. We want to have a small forest in every city.We're hopping to continue this event in every place where we can plant trees.

Hi friends,

We did not get permission from relevant authorities to plant trees in station areas. But GM of railway department promised to give us some space in their yards . So last week we visit those areas and it was amazing.... There is plenty of space we can used to plant trees. Check these photos.......

UCSC Freshers

Team,
New Intake is already commence at UCSC . As we discussed earlier we're going to sponsor one or two undergraduate student throughout his/her academic period.

Today is the last day of computer trainig program conduct at KOTTAWA DHARMAPAL VIDYALAYA by our team and UCSC computer science society.

We have again start to organize the planting tree activity at stations. We are hoping to start it on month of October.

Student Training Program

Hi,
Back again ... we're moving in a fast track in these days. Now our team ready to touch a school to share our computer science knowledge with them. We have planned to conduct 25 hrs training session to student of KOTTAWA DHARMAPAL VIDYALAYA.

This will be done by with the collaboration of UCSC computer Society and our betterplace4all team. As the president of BETTERPLACE4ALL team I'm really happy and enjoying the effort of my team on making this world a better place.

Succeful Car Wash

WoW,
It is a amazing experience for all of us. It's really nice. All the team guys working as single team towards success of our goals. You have to see it. We had washed around 30 cars. Various type of vehicles. Starting from ThreeWhellers to Toyota Land Cruiser Prado it is a great experience. I will post some photos of it in my future post.

Car Wash

Friends,
Now we had printed all the tickets and now we are try distribute those tickets. It is really difficult to distribute car wash tickets. Most of the people do not like to contribute for a ticket. But some are very interest on these kind of things.

To help others we need finance support. It is difficult to do such good thing without having proper finance. Any how this 22nd is the day. CAR WASH OF BETTERPLACE4ALL.

Finally want to thank every body who had contributed to a ticket as support for us. Thank you very much.

All the money will be use to help on education of poor children and to add something good to environment.

Foooo,
Finally we had got a date for our car wash. After going through chain of authority they gave next 22nd of July as a date for our car wash. We going to have it near BRC grounds in Sri Lanka. We're going to print some stickers and tickets to earn some money to our public service work.
If any one is doing car wash in Sri Lanka you have to get permission from
1. Municipal Council
2. Police
3. City Traffic
Lot of restriction are applied to it
1. In Colombo you can organize a car only on Sunday.
2. You can't have sounds for entertain.
3. You can't jump in to road and stop vehicles.
4. Important thing is permission is only given to College and University students
by Police.
(We do all these thing not towards us but towards others...............)

Change in Plan

Friends,

After discussing with relevant authorities we had to change our plan in planting trees in road area. Which is not suitable for growing of tree.
Then we brain storm on where to plant then we realize that station is good place which have needed protection , care and space for support the growing of tree. Now we're planing on station areas to make our dream realistic.
I will update progress in future.

AT GAMPHA

As I mentioned we went elder's place at gampha to start our first social service on 7th Saturday 2007. We had selected an elder's home where 9 grandparents live together away from there childerens.We had cleaned that place , Paint , and made a rack to keep goods and spend the time with them.

more than 30 members had participated in this event to make Gampha Elders place a bertterplace. All of us are very delight on what we have done and we came from that place at night with the hope of doing another helpful thing to others soon as possible.

We were get to gether on march 10th of saturday to discuss about
future plans of our beeterplace4all society.

1. We had initiated a internal group to maintain the discipline
and the mentality of helping others.

2. We decide to help a undergraduate student who need financial
support through out his academic period.

3. finally as group work we had decided to help to an
elders home place. Which will be done in the end of this month.

All the funds needed for these events are fulfilled by the contribution
of society members.

We had held our first meeting to form our group. We held the meeting with fourteen members and made few important decisions. If i brief the decisions,
1. Assign group to find a name .
2. Made some policies which need to build formal background.
3. Some discussions about how we are going to help the others.

Finally Evrybody aggreed to do some activity to help other , now we are planing for our first activity. Help towards betterplace.
